Tweets,

Herewith our WOS Seattle Big Day December 12 field trip report. We hoped to
come close to the Washington State December Big Day record of 102 set by a
Bainbridge Island team. However, we fell short by 14 species. Not even
close. Our excuses include the previous week's deep freeze which froze all
the smaller fresh water bodies and the nasty Christmas season weekend
shopping traffic that delayed our cross-town connections from Discovery Park
to Magnuson Park. The deep freeze seems to have reduce many local land bird
populations. We barely escaped misses of such species as House Finch, House
Sparrow, Pine Siskin, American Goldfinch, White-crowned Sparrow, and
Steller's Jay. Still, the weather with crisp, cold, and clear with a fine
sunrise at Discovery Park and sunset from Alki. The cold apparently drove
some Deer Mice out of hiding as we saw two scuttling along the trails and
caught one for a close-study.

Intrepid team members (for all or part of the day) include Gene Hunn, Brien
Meilleur, Sharon Cormier-Aagaard, Jeff Cohen, Scott Ramos, Ginger Rebstock,
Mason Flint, John Faley, Michiko McAndrew, Dave Hutchinson, Randy Bjorklund,
and an owler whose name I failed to note. For those interested, our list
follows. Numbers are approximate and conservative.
