And there is some big news from this year?s race, which will be the LAST:
LINDA PHILLIPS remains on a tear in Kenmore as she has added HAMMOND?S FLYCATCHER (not recently!) ?& SNOW GOOSE to reach 64.? Phillip?s list also includes 7 Warblers, Cal. Quail, Cackling Geese, Western Wood Pewee, White-throated Sparrow and Purple Finch, and ensures that Kenmore?s first-ever YBR record won?t be an easy one to topple.
Big news from Seattle.
?SCOTT HOSKIN is at 69 as of early November and is threatening to win not only his home neighborhood of Ballard but also possibly Seattle overall this year. If this were to come to pass, it would end the WEST SEATTLE DYNASTY in the Seattle Overall and Residential and category of the YardBirdRace.? Of course, late entries are welcome and always a possibility in the YardBirdRace and no lead is safe till the Yard-Racing symbol falls in Times Square ?when thousands are expected to be on hand?cheering the importance of backyard wildlife habitat.?? Hoskin?s list includes a raft of highlight birds such as COMMON NIGHTHAWK, NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED & TREE SWALLOWS, VAUX?S SWIFT, CALIFORNIA GULL,? CHIPPING SPARROW, BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER, PURPLE MARTIN & BARRED OWL.
In Snoqualmie, JOHN TUBBS has picked up a NORTHERN HARRIER, to lead with 6, currently good for third in the county.?
KRISTI HEIN and CAREY BAZEWICK are looking to repeat in Anacortes proper, where a HERMIT THRUSH became #52.? GARY BLETSCH leads Skagit Co overall with 88 including SORA, BITTERN, SANDHILL CRANE, TOWNSEND?S SOLITAIRE & NORTHERN SHRIKE.
When last heard from DIANA MOORE was leading Ocean Shores with 61, including WHIMBREL, MARBLED GODWIT, NORTHERN HARRIER & BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER.? The Ocean Shores record of 63 could be in trouble.
Yelm is guaranteed a YBR record for the first time as MICHELLE ZENNER-BERTELS? is at 37 with SNOW GEESE, TURKEY VULTURE, CALIFORNIA QUAIL, & VARIED THRUSH, RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER, PILEATED WOODPECKER and TOWNSEND?S WARBLER.
Bellingham had extreme YardBirdRacing this year as DIANE BIRSNER & DAVE SCHMALTZ clocked in at 61, with BLACK SWIFT among others, while MERRILL PETERSON, CAROL YOON & kids had 62 (EVENING GROSBEAK among others) in June.? Is this race still in play?
In Ravenna, the Byers appear to have tied the Ravenna mark of 36 with a list replete with the remarkable overflight-yard birds COMMON LOON & COMMON MERGANSER.
Other Racers were not quite so lucky despite great efforts this year.? BOBBY & CURT PEARSON were at 41, 8 below their record in Hillman City. ?JOSH HAYES had recent adds of PILEATED WOODPECKER & COMMON RAVEN in Licton Springs, but at 37 with a week left doesn?t see a likelihood of the four more needed to tie his record there.
Ditto for GRACE & OLLIE OLIVER, who picked up White-throated Sparrow this month in Redmond and are at a cool 55, but trail their record there by 6.
Three-peat Residential champ JIM DANZENBAKER of Battleground was at 114 with NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL, to name one, as of last report.? Two would tie the all-time YBR Residential mark, while three would go ahead and also amaze lots of people.
