Despite a nice sunny, snowless day, bird numbers were down for the Spokane
CBC held 12/27/09.

The low was +16 which was 34 degrees warmer than last year!

Best birds were CACKLING GEESE, WOOD DUCK, GRAY PARTRIDGE, RUFFED GROUSE,
NORTHERN GOSHAWK, GOLDEN EAGLE, SNIPE, PILEATED WOODPECKER, NORTHERN SHRIKE,
BROWN CREEPER, CANYON WREN, WINTER WREN, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, HERMIT
THRUSH, and EVENING GROSBEAK.

With some reports still out, we had many misses including BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS,
BLUE JAY, CLARK'S NUTCRACKER, TREE SPARROW, PINE GROSBEAK, REDPOLLS and PINE
SISKINS. Also, there have been no reports of SNOWY OWLS in Spokane or
Lincoln Counties this winter. There seems to be some agreement that this is
a dull winter, but nobody wants the 5 feet of snow we received last Dec.

Happy New Years Listing!
