Hello All,

This morning MerryLynn and I had the privilege of birding with Eric & Tammy
Bjorkman and Ken Knittle. We birded Walla Walla and saw a few birds. Headed
out to the Walla Walla River delta where we saw the following species of
note.

1. Glaucous Gull......1 ad.
2. Dunlin..................6 birds
3. Killdeer...............1 bird
4. Bald Eagle...........1 bird
5. Herring Gull.........10 birds

Ken and the Bjorkmens left just before noon. MerryLynn and I went north to
the Two Rivers HMU and Casey Pond where we saw the following....

6. Red-breasted Mergansers.......13 birds- MOST WE HAVE EVER SEEN in WW Co.
at once.
7. Common Loon.........................2 birds
8. PACIFIC LOON.....................5 birds-this is the largest number of
PALOs we have ever seen at once in Walla Walla Co. in 25+ years of birding.
9. Tundra Swan.............................27 birds
10. Glaucous Gull...........................1 ad.( took several great
photos), 1 second year bird
11. Mew Gull..................................1 ad.-photoed
12. Am. White Pelican.....................47 birds, many starting to grow
their breeding horn.-photoed
13. Horned Grebe............................41 birds
14. Western Grebe...........................18 birds
15. Pied-billed Grebe........................33 birds
16. Ruddy Duck................................14 birds
17. Bald Eagle...................................56 birds-this is the
largest number of Bald Eagle we have ever seen in an afternoon in WW Co.
18. Eurasian Wigeon...........................1 male
19. Black-crowned Night Heron..........2 birds
20. Hooded Merganser........................17 birds
21. N. Pintail.........................................545 birds
22. Yellow-headed Blackbird................18 birds
23. Tricolored Blackbird.........................4 birds
24. Brewers Blackbird............................2300 birds
25.Brown-headed Cowbird.....................40+

Then we went south to the Port of Wallula granary

26. Canvasback......................................1800 birds
27. Ring-necked Duck.............................400 birds
28. Redhead............................................350 birds
29. Greater Scaup....................................60 birds
30. Lesser Scaup.....................................240 birds
31. Common Goldeneye...........................160 birds
32. Borrows Goldeneye.............................1 bird
33. Am. Coot............................................700 birds

Now that waterfowl hunting season is over the birds have once again breathed
a sigh of relief and returned to those important feeding areas where they
gather in order to survive the winter season. There is a Blue Mountain
Audubon Gulls and Waterfowl Fieldtrip this coming weekend. Go to

Yesterday (31 Jan.) Ken, The Bjorkmens, MerryLynn & I saw the following.

A. Northern Saw-whet Owl-2 birds, 1 at Fishook Park, 1 at Hooper
B. Long-eared Owl-5 birds
C. Great Horned Owl-10 birds
D. Merlin-1 bird
E. Varied Thrush-1 bird
