Subject: [Tweeters] good Harris's Sparrow year?
Date: Feb 2 12:42:41 2009
From: Bill and Nancy LaFramboise - billnanl at verizon.net

We are very interested in collecting sightings of Harris's Sparrows seen
this winter. There are two (first-winter) birds currently visiting our yard
(November 16, 2008 and January 1, 2009 arrival dates).

This year Harris's Sparrows seem to be present in higher than normal
numbers. There have been at least 8 in the Tri-Cities area (not the typical
1 - 3). Our yard in Richland has had Harris's Sparrow in 8 of the last 17
winters and they have been seen in the Tri-Cities almost every winter since
we have kept track. They have almost exclusively been first-winter birds.
Oddly enough at least 3 of the eight here this year were adults.

We'd like to find out about Harris's Sparrows in all areas. If people could
send their sightings, we'll compile. In addition to the typical data of
location, numbers, observers, and date(s), please send age if known.
