Class Description:

Lecture Series: Birds of the Puget Sound Lowlands
with Dennis Paulson, Author, Professor Emeritus, Master Birder Instructor
If you are an intermediate or advanced birder this series will certainly expand your knowledge, improve your skills, and enhance your birding enjoyment!
This is a 5-part lecture series of the lowlands of western Washington, covering Blaine to Vancouver. This geographic area supports a varied and interesting avifauna, with bird species replacing one another as the seasons progress. This class explores over 200 of the regularly occurring bird species of this area. You will learn about the distribution, seasonal occurrence, and natural history of these species as well as how to identify them. You will discover why some species are migratory and others sedentary, how different species are finely adapted for their varied diets, and tidbits about their breeding biology. The lectures will be extensively illustrated with photographic slides of all the species.
This is an excellent foundational class for anyone considering the Master Birder program.
Class: Five Thursdays, February 5th March 5th 7- 9 pm
Location: Center for Urban Horticulture, NHS Hall, Section A (nearest the restrooms)
Cost: $100 members, $130 non-members for the series
