Today I followed up on a report of white-winged crossbills at the summit of Mt. Erie that Tiffany Linbo had made on January 21st. Mt. Erie is south of Anacortes and north of Lake Erie where the tufted duck can be found.
Ten minutes after I arrived at the summit one male and two females flew in and posed for fifteen minutes or so. At one point they flew to the top of a conifer and perched about 30 feet from me, and below eye level. I was standing at the overlook at the bottom of the stairway, looking east.
