Subject: [Tweeters] Benton County Snow Geese

On Feb. 7, Susan and I were heading up the Columbia Gorge and
when we neared Whitcomb Island, just east of the Klickitat County line,
we could see a large patch of white in the fields. We pulled off Highway
14 on to the auto tour route and found at least 2,000 SNOW GEESE with
about 5,000 CANADA GEESE. The geese were very wary so we weren't able to
get close enough to scope them for Ross' Goose or Cackling Goose.
When we came back by the island at dusk the geese were still in
the field and 20 BALD EAGLES were in the cottonwoods along the channel
between the island and the highway.
