Barb and I made a trip to Coulee City to look for her life White-winged
Crossbill. Upon arrival we walked all over town looking and listening and
were unsuccessful. After a break for hot chocolate at a local stop-over we
went back to make another try. Immediately we were awarded with great views
of a male in a large Norway Spruce. Eventually we were able to locate and
observe 7 males and 2 females in the same tree. The birds moved from tree to
tree and were sometimes hard to find, even after watching them land. It was
worth the effort as they afforded very good views.

On the way home along Stratford Road we were able to watch large numbers of
ducks and geese feeding in corn fields. Ducks were all Mallards and Northern
Pintail, while the geese were a mix of large and small race Canada Geese and
around 40 Cackling Geese comprised mostly of taverneri with at least 6
minima.
