Yes, Tweeters, there is a new bird in Douglas County. Late yesterday I
saw a Yellow-billed Loon behind Chief Joseph Dam (Murphy Rd.). Today I
saw it again with Victor and Libby Glick. It is with 2 common loons, but
sometimes off by itself. At the Bridgeport intersection of Hwy. 17 and
173(76 gas station/Quik E Mart)instead of turning in to Bridgeport, you go
up Pearl Hill Rd. that goes behind the dam. Murphy Road goes into a
fishing area. The road forks, and we saw the loon from both spots. We
also saw it from the road that goes to the boat launch, Fisher Rd., but
down towards the 2 red buildings. (If anyone sees it in Okanogan Co.,
Libby would like to know!)

We met sevseral people looking for the N. Hawk Owl. One man had seen it
yesterday about 4:00 p.m. But, it was not on Road B, between 15 and 16.
IT HAS MOVED ONE MILE EAST, TO: 1601 Rd. C, N. E. (The Foged
residence.) We found it in the top of an evergreen west of the small
grain storage building. It flew down, caught a mouse (we think) and went
back to a bare branched tree, where it was hard to see. Rd. 16 is not
plowed between B and C, and has power poles the whole length. So it is
possible for the bird to be out-of-sight. GOOD LUCK. Meredith
