Mike Patterson mentioned the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) going on this weekend.
It started yesterday, and goes through Monday. I did a few counts in some Burien
areas by Puget Sound yesterday morning, Feb 13. The areas are west of SeaTac
Airport.
At Eagle Landing Park, two HUTTON'S VIREO'S were singing their repetitive tree, tree,
tree, etc w/ a downward pitch, and shreet, shreet, shreet w/ an upward pitch. One of
them was doing a scold call that kind of sounded like the meow call of a Spotted
Towhee. A couple of BROWN CREEPERS were also singing and calling, and flying to
various areas of the park. Contrary to Mike's msg below, I only counted 4 AMERICAN
ROBINS. At this small park that goes down the high bank waterfront to the sound, I
counted 21 species.
Seahurst Park is a large park along the water north of Burien. I did another quick
count there. There is a large wooded area there, maybe 100 acres. Two adult BALD
EAGLES there were acting like a pair, perching together, and flying up to chase out a
third Bald Eagle. I could not locate an eagle's nest. If anyone knows of an eagle's
nest in the Burien area, please contact me off line.

I was just checking the Great Backyard bird count results

and noticed the Yakima has recorded over 92,000 AMERICAN
ROBINS.
A very impressive number...
