This evening (2/14) at 5:30 I slipped into Saltwater state park in an attempt to identify any owl species. Before I left the house I listened to various owl vocalizations from www.owlpages.com so I would hopefully understand what I was hearing (if anything). At two minutes to 6pm two WSOs started hooting to each other. I assume the male had the deeper tone and the female had the higher pitch but I'm not sure if that is how it works. I worked my way slowly up a trail to the top of the draw to where the male (i think) was calling from. After about 15 minutes of easly walking I had the little bugger take off from a branch about 10 feet from my head then pass infront of me and out of sight down the hill!

Saltwater State Park is really cool, the upper part being nicely forested whith an abundance of both evergreen and deciduous snags.
