Hi Tweets - I took an extra day to get home after the great WOS trip led
by Ruth and Stefan. In Grant county, I found the Northern Saw-Whet that
had been reported in Pioneer Cemetery at Moses Lake (and a Great Horned
Owl that let out a "who-whowho" when I walked under its tree). The Sage
Sparrows have returned to their usual spot 3.1 miles down slope from
Silica Road in Frenchman's Coulee (at least 3 males singing on
territory). In Kittitas County at the town of Kittitas there were 3
Eurasian Collared-Doves at First & S. Lewis. On Reecer Creek Canyon
Road (north of Ellensburg) my goal was to head up high enough for
Northern Pygmy Owl but the road was closed and barricaded as you enter
the riparian zone due to snow. However, 3 Golden Eagles were perched
close to the road eyeing a carcass in the ditch but the highlight for me
was a flock of 60 or so Bohemian Waxwings that swarmed onto the fruited
trees right next to the car.
