Hi Nancy & Tweeters:
I just submitted a list to GBBC for the monthly Green River Natural Resources Area
(Kent Ponds) census on Sun, Feb 15. Nothing rare on our count. We missed the
Long-eared Owl & the Red-shouldered Hawk. The count was kind of slow in the morning
as it was 32 degrees for part of the morning. But it did not rain, and there was a
little sun. We had an Amer. Bittern on the count, which will be added to the 7
already listed in WA state.

I clicked on the GBBC Top Ten list this morning. That was interesting.
Bird on most lists - Cardinal
Most numerous birds - Snow Goose
Most checklists - Pennsylvania
States/Provinces most species - Texas. But WASHINGTON STATE was #6!
MOST BIRDS IN A STATE - WASHINGTON 587,756!
For Localities:
Most chklists - Charlotte, N Carolina
Most spp - Corpus Cristi, TX
MOST BIRDS - YAKIMA - 222,678!!!

In WA State: There were 9,017 Snow Geese reported in WA. Where are they? I guess
not many on Fir Island? Eur Collared-Dove - 48 on 13 checklists. W Scrub Jay - 240
on 106 chklists. (Our Kent Ponds Census added 3 to this number.) There were some
weird ones reported like Osprey - 2, and Ferrug. Hawk - 1. Are these down by
Ridgefield?
Rufous Hummingbird - 49 on 35 checklists. ? Are they back already?
Anyway, way to go WASHINGTON STATE, and especially YAKIMA!
Yours, Carol Schulz

Today was the last day of counting for the GBBC. Thanks to everyone who has
submitted counts so far.

Data entry will be open through the end of the month, so please submit any
counts you haven't put in yet.

You can see statewide totals at:
http://gbbc.birdsource.org/gbbcApps/statelinks

Totals for your community are here:
http://gbbc.birdsource.org/gbbcApps/report?cmd=step2Place
<http://gbbc.birdsource.org/gbbcApps/report?cmd=step2Place&action=continue&r
eportType=place&place=city> &action=continue&reportType=place&place=city

If you know of sightings of birds that aren't showing up on your state or
local lists yet, please make sure that they get reported.

As most of you probably know, we have a dedicated team of reviewers who have
to verify unusual reports before they show up on the website. So if you
reported something really good for your area, or even unusually large
numbers of regular species, please be patient with our volunteer reviewers
as they work their way through all the flagged unusual sightings.

Likewise, if you see something that seems out of place...feel free to email
citizenscience at audubon.org with the location and species in question and we
will forward to the reviewers in your area.

Thanks for all the help. I'll send out more updates as more reports come
in. Lets get all our reports in for this 12th and best ever GBBC!
