Hi tweets,

Wendy and I traveled from Sylvania to Edison yesterday and I said ?We should
be counting eagles?. We didn?t, but we must have seen over 100 for the day.
They were thick in the trees and on the ground. We really were looking for
the Gyrfalcon that Brandon et al had found during the Hawk Census on
Saturday, and Marve Breece, et al had re-found on Monday. We found a Merlin
in Edison, seen from the Edison Caf? (good food) parking lot, and both a
Peregrine and a Prairie on Bayview Edison. We cruised around the basin
looking for a Kestrel and a Gyr with no luck until we neared the
intersection of Field and Thomas. Suddenly a fiercely fast flying falcon
form flashed furiously across Field and banked left heading east toward the
hills. We followed gamely behind but never saw it again. We decided it was
a 90% sure Gyrfalcon, going by form, size, and wing action. As darkness
loomed we tried our best for a Kestrel, but they?re hardly ever around when
you need one. We headed back home with a 3.9 falcon day, to go with the 4.0
FD (no Gyr) we had last Thursday and the 3.0 FD (no Gyr or Kestrel) we had
on Saturday. We were feeling thankful that we live so close to a
beautiful area where such sightings are possible and we are smart enough to
be here.
