this weekend our family, along with the higgens family enjoyed a nice
weekend at the sun mountian lodge in winthrop. it was kind of low key
birding but we still managed to get out a little. here is a few of
our highlights; the Northern Hawk-owl at its regular intersection.
two Black-backed Woodpeckers at the snow park near tonasket. also at
the snow park later on we had a fly-by Barred Owl. in the highlands
the birding was slow but we did see some Gray-crowned
Rosy-finches(coastal and interior) and Clarks Nutcrackers. the
Yellow-billed Loon was at the log boom, along with a herring gull and
some common goldeneyes. Near winthrop we had a juvenile Northern
Goshawk. On cameron lk. road we saw Red Crossbills and Our only Snow
Bunting. Also at the lodge we saw all three Nuthatches, Common
Redpoll, and Pine Grosbeaks out the window at breakfast every morning.
on the way home we saw a Harlans Red-tailed Hawk and hundreds of
Bohemian Waxwings. thank you to all the people who have posted all
the birds and were they have been. it was very helpful.

one other interesting thing was a starling with an extremely long and
down-curved bill. its upper mandible was probably 3-4 times the
length of its lower mandible. this bird was on a wire in the town of
Okanogan.
