Yesterday a non-birder saw a strange bird at his feeder, took a picture and
sent to a birder who forwarded to me.

We thought probable Rose-breasted Grosbeak.

Today we chased arriving about 10:30. The owner said he hadn't seen it
today, but Judy soon spotted it in a bush.

It's a first winter male.

It's in southern Stevens County about 10 miles out in the woods from
Suncrest (hwy 291).

They still have 2 feet of snow so little cars might not make it.

The owner gave permission to post directions (from Spokane) which are below.

I have no idea whether this is a chasable bird. Evidently it is not around
early mornings.

Good Birding,

Go out 291 through Suncrest to Whitmore Hill Rd. R on Whitmore Hill to
Glen Grove Rd (where pavement ends----may not be signed). R on Glen Grove
Rd (there's a bend part way up the road) to Tarbert (about 2 miles. Sign
may be hard to see). R on Tarbert. Hold to the right & go to the first
driveway. A pole barn & mobile home on your left is just off the road
(there will be friendly dogs, goats, & chickens). This is the home of the
Sandberg family. The bird has been around the feeders near the porch.
