Hello Tweeters,

Thank you kindly to everybody who wrote to me with information about the
immature eagle. I've received a couple of requests to share the ID
information I've received, so here we go...

Opinion ran 5 to 1 in favor of the bird being an immature American Bald
Eagle with some disagreement as to whether this is a second- or third-year
bird. Common identification information included the following:

1) The white on the breast/belly is diagnostic for this bird being a bald
eagle. According to more than one person who responded, Golden Eagles never
have white on the breast/belly like that at any stage.

2) The large bill and head are diagnostic for bald eagle. A Golden Eagle
would have a smaller bill/head overall.

Thanks again for all the help. Tweeters is a wonderful resource for birders
of all skill levels, but as a beginning birder I find your collective
expertise extremely helpful.
