Greetings,

Today Barb and I wandered along the Columbia River through a variety of
weather from snow storms to partial sun, with the predominate being a hard
and very cold rain. We drove down the Old Vantage Hwy (on the Grant County
side) where birds were few and far between, even on the river. A large flock
of American Coots, a large flock of Greater Scaup (with a few Lesser Scaup
mixed in), a smattering of Ruddy Ducks, a few Horned Grebes, and a single
Common Loon were the only waterbirds in sight.

Between there and Wanapum Dam we ran into many more waterbirds and added
most of the regular species. Just above Wanapum Dam were three LONG-TAILED
DUCKS that included a beautiful primping male and two female prospects.

Cheers

Doug Schonewald
