Tweets, Sunday late afternoon I skipped soccer and wandered around Budd Bay
in Olympia (much easier on the knees). Most interesting:
- GLAUCOUS GULL (1st yr) between Plum St turnoff and Swantown Marina
(formerly East Bay Marina) on cement slab across from Martin boxes
- PEREGRINE FALCON apparently nesting at southern "peak" of southernmost
brown support beam of harbor crane, north of Anthony's (old) restaurant on N
Columbia. I heard some "crying" vocalization, made me wonder about possible
babies in the nest. It eventually perched exposed on the top railing on the
north end of the crane for about 10 minutes.
- BARROW'S GOLDENEYE: female-type in front of Anthony's and a pair behind
Swantown's big "boatworks" building.
- DUNLIN: A remarkable flock, perhaps 2500 or more, crowded (for roosting I
assume) on the steep, rocky shore near high tide next to the aforementioned
Martin houses south of Swantown. They stretched along the shoreline 100
paces, the mass "swelling" at its middle nearly reaching as high as the
grass at the top of the bank.
Good birding!
