I gave my daughter-in-law a bird feeder for Christmas. She is not a birder
but likes them. She called me from Monroe last week and said she had what
she thought were bluebirds at her feeder. I was very skeptical, even after
her description. I spent a few hours there hoping whatever they were might
show up but no luck. She called me excitedly this afternoon and told me that
one was there and that she took a few pictures of it through the window.
Sure enough, the pictures she sent were indeed of a bright male western
bluebird having lunch on her suet. Now I am excited to spend some time there
again to see if I can score some images. They live in a new development with
no large trees near by. The feeder is in the middle of their back yard out
in the open. I told her how lucky she was because the only other birds that
have shown up were juncos.
