This morning at Crescent Lake WMA (Two Rivers WMA) in Monroe Tayler
Brooks and I saw two American Bitterns, two White-throated Sparrows
and about 40 Brown-headed Cowbirds. One of the bitterns was walking
around on the ice out in the open.

Later in the day at the Skagit Game Range there were 70 Bohemian
Waxwings, 60 Cedar Waxwings, a Slate-colored Junco, and about 45
Purple Finches. The Bohemians we saw were in two flocks - 45 out at
the end of the new dike where it becomes private property and 25
between the two parking lots. We also heard Bohemians two other times
while walking the dikes but were unable to see those birds. Despite
these great highlights it was pretty slow birding in general with few
sparrows or other passerines around.

At dusk there were six Short-eared Owls and a Northern Shrike at the
North Fork Access at the end of Rawlins Road.

Happy New Year,
