Hi Tweets and fellow compilers:



I have the final numbers for the Dec 27th count. 20 out of 26 of us enjoyed
pretty decent weather by harbor standards, while 6 suffered through periods
of limited visibility via fog.that would be the 6 covering the Hoquiam area.
Total number of species found was 142, a really excellent number. In my
first posting of Sunday, Dec 28th I mentioned a few of the outstanding
sightings; here is a second look at some of the ones that impressed
me.keeping in mind this is my first year as a sole compiler.



* Two separate parties found 3 Gray-crowned Rosy Finches.about 8 miles
apart.
* A Short-tailed Shearwater was spotted just inside the harbor entrance by
Bruce LaBar, Charlie Wright & Matt Pike. It obligingly hung around for 1/2
hour, allowing very good looks with excellent visibility.

* My personal surprise was a total of 52 Brown Pelicans; they are usually
headed south by Thanksgiving.

* 11 Snow Geese

* 2 Black Oystercatchers on the old jetty rocks behind (east) of the Ocean
Shores sewage treatment plant.

* 108 Wilson's Snipe

* 29 Trumpeter Swans

* 1 Townsend's Warbler on count day, the 27th, and 2 more found the 28th.

* 10 Western Meadowlarks

* 1 Savanna Sparrow

* 2 Horned Larks

* 1 Townsend's Solitaire

* 1 Northern Shrike

* 2 Hutton's Vireo

* 1 Mourning Dove

* 3 Red-breasted Sapsuckers

* 14 Anna's Hummingbirds

And finally,

* 599 Varied Thrush
