hello tweeties,

the most recently demystified mystery bird was an African Jacana, Actophilornis africanus;

be sure to check out that link to read Rick's analysis for identifying this species.

i have not given you a mystery bird today because the entire ScienceBlogs site is undergoing an upgrade to Movable Type 4.0. This means that even though you can read my blog, you cannot post any comments, so half the fun of the mystery birds has been removed (in my opinion). speaking of comments reminds me to tell you that you should be sure to check out the yesterday's mystery bird reader comments here (i think they are quite amusing);

ScienceBlogs will (supposedly) be fully functional by Saturday night (a long and agonizing 36 hours from now, sigh), so there will be a new mystery bird to entertain you on Sunday morning, so be ready for that. Until then, i will be "guest blogging" for two or three other blogs and will post the links to those essays to my blog once it is fully functional again.

cheers,
