I went back up to the park at dusk on Saturday.

It was there again tonight. Much more active tonight by 5pm in the
day roost perch. Preening, swiveling it's head around. It moved to
the same pre-flight tree at 5:10pm. Continued it's preening and
shedding a couple of feathers. It didn't regurgitate a pellet whilst
I was there (but could have done so before I arrived). It left a
little after 5:15pm this time heading out SW at first (I though it
was switching trees) then out over Federal Ave E heading almost due
west. It seems not to be hunting in the park at least at the start of
the night.

In my Google Map "Birding in Volunteer Park"

the satellite (aircraft photo) view I've placed the blue marker just
about right on the tree. Look for the white outline of the
rectangular building to the west: it's like a large shed in the
garden with a flat roof at the same level as the holloway on the
boundary of the park. It's right at the northern edge of that shed.

I've also added a red marker at the location of the COOPER'S HAWK
nest (currently unoccupied but we can hope they'll return this year).
I'll add more locations as they come up.

If you do go to see it spend some time looking. The owl is well
camouflaged (more than I would have imagined). Without the crow's
help the first time I would have missed it. But know I know where to
look.
