Hello Tweeters,
I led a Fieldtrip for the Tahoma Audubon yesterday to Point Wilson,what
became a Hotspot birding place for the last three months,thanks to Bob
Whitney who at all times keep us informed in details what can be sighted in
the Port Townsent crossing the Hood Canal Bridge in the distance where we
was going it looked clear sky.We arrived at Point Wilson at exact 9.00
AM.The high tide was at 5.36 AM, with a 9.7 feet and a second high tide
coming in at 2.45 PM.at 9.0 feet
We all scoped especial looking for the Ancient Murrelet's,as the first group
came with 20 birds flying to the right in a tight group.
But a few minute later a bigger group came who had around 80 Ancient
Murrelet's.
Here are the other birds we had for the time we stayed around Common Loon
5,Red -throaded Loon 1, Pacific Loon 1,Surf Scoter 5,Red breasted
Merganser10,Western Grebes,2,Horned Grebes 10,Western Grebes 1,Buffleheads
12,Harlequin only 2,DC Cormorant 10,Pelagic cormorant 3,,Glaucous Gulls 21
,Mew Gulls 6,We probable could had more birds,but we had to go on the other
areas we intend to visiting.
We all were eager to going to Port Hudson looking for the many
Black-Turnstone and finding the 2 Rock Sandpipers.
You can hear the many Turnstone calling with there guttural rattle.There
where about a guessing of 150 Black Turnstone .We managed to see the 2 Rock
Sandpiper who was sleeping and was not disturbed by all the noise and
flittering of the Black Turnstone.At several times this 2 Rock Sandpiper
lifted there head ,so we all saw the longer bill.We also had 1 MARBLED
GODWIT in this group.We basically repeated some of the species in this
area,but it was out of the ordinary to seeing a Common Loon taken of to
flying quite high up in the air.We did had our first Hooded Merganser here 2
Males and one female.
Next we visiting the KAH-TAI LAGOON in Port Townsend
Here are the highlights:
Both female and male Greater Scoup,1 female Lesser Scoup,55 Ruddy Ducks,25
Wigeon, A pair of Gadwall.,Lot's of Buffelheads ,Coots.Great -Blue Heron,Fox
and Song Sparrows.

Indian Island Lagoon Beach
High count on Brant Geese 450 birds in the Lagoon,Lot,s of Mew
Gulls&G.W.Gulls,12 Cackling Geese,Pileated Woodpecker 1,All 3 Cormorants,15
Black Turnstone (on Jetty) 1 Pigeon Guillemont,18 Red-breasted
Merganser,Bald Eagles 4.We had all together over 10 Bald Eagles on this
trip.
On the way to Fort Flagler we had one most beautiful rufous morph Red-tailed
Hawk (the only Red-tailed on this trip)
We also had a Scrub Jay on the way to Fort Flagler.
This are the birds we found on the entrance going right 300 Pin Siskin,
Golden-crowned Kinglet's 2, Ruby -crowned Kinglet's,2 Downey Woodpeckers,1
Brown Creeper,Lot's of Robin and Varied Thrushes,( on the lighthouse,the
back Ponds)
the only Northern Shovelers 12.
Mystery Bay, 1 Eared Grebe,lot's of Horned Grebes,Pigeon Guillemont 1,More
Varied Thrushes,
OAK BAY, high count on Northern Pintails 300, and more Bufflelheads Pelagic
Cormorants
All together we had 65 Species for the day,but lot's of birds to count
Big misses where Long-tailed Ducks
