Tweeters: One more owl for our side of the mountains. This bird was
first seen Tues., Jan.`13 at 1:50 p.m. by Richard Hendrick. The location
is Hwy. 17 between mile marker 139 and 140 (across the Columbia River from
Bridgeport, but in Okanogan County). It was perched on a power pole,in an
orchard on the river side of the highway, and later flew to the blade of
a wind machine in the orchard.

Today, Jan. 14th Victor and Libby Glick and myself found the owl farther
south, just past mile marker 137 (Jack Wells Road), at approx. 3:00 p.m.
This time it was on the other side of the highway. It seemed to be hunting
and flew from pole to pole back north (towards Jack Wells Road), finally
landing on a large white cross up on the hillside. It was only there a
short time when a Prairie Falcon landed on the cross, chasing the Hawk Owl
away. Approx. 10:00 a.m. we had seen a Prairie Falcon on that same cross.

So, it has been seen twice in two days. Can't guarantee anything, but
thought someone might want to know of this sighting. On 12/31/07 the four
of us found a Hawk Owl on a sign near Crown Point above Grand Coulee Dam.
So, now we wonder if they have some kind of relationship with dams, as
Chief Joseph Dam is just south of this sighting... Along this same
stretch of 4 miles or so we had Red Tails, a Kestrel, one Merlin, a
Coooper's Hawk and one Rough-legged Hawk. Must be plenty to eat out
there!

I just hope it is seen again, AND that it makes it across at least half of
