Maurie,

The Slater Museum in Tacoma has a large, useful online collection of
bird wing images. I believe this collection is largely the result of
efforts by our own Dennis Paulson (maybe others too). The link
provided below includes the woodpeckers of their collection. Your
feathers look like a woodpecker's, indeed. However, their length (4.5
inches) seems a bit too long for all but Pileated and Flicker, which
of course look different than yours.
