Roger.

My partner and I have taken birding trips to Belize and Panama with Michael
Carmody who operates Legacy Tours out of Spokane. I can't say enough good
things about Michael and the quality of the trips he organizes. The birding
is superb, the people who travel with him delightful, and the extras along
the way make for an experience we couldn't create on our own. He runs trips
to Mexico and to various parts of Central and South America on a regular
basis. Though his trips are not cheap, they are of very good value. To
learn more, check out his website. < http://www.legacy-tours.com/ >

(The 2009 Belize trip looks like the same itinerary we had back in 2007 and
I'd be happy to tell you more about it.)

Hi,

I haven't been birding in Central or South America, and I'd like to go this
year. Would you be willing to help by answering the following questions (if
you can):

> What countries/locations are ideal for viewing a variety of birds (&
animals, if possible)? For instance, would you recommend
Costa Rica or the Amazon? Please be specific.

> What season of the year would be best for viewing birds in those
locations? (For instance, would I be likely
to see more birds during the rainy season than during the dry season?)

> Which birds (& animals) would I be likely to see?

> Which months comprise the rainy season in your locations of choice?

> How would you arrange a trip: through a travel agent? (If so, which one?)

> If you make travel arrangements privately, which outfitters, guides,
lodgings would you recommend?

> Where would you not go--for personal safety or security?
========

Warmly,

Roger Chapanis
