Eureka! The first R.B. Sapsucker I've seen here at the Barboretum
this winter. Watched it for over an hour this morning, rat-a-tat-
tatting it's way up and around a Scot's pine. Used to see one
regularly each winter, but it's been awhile. No sucker fight between
several, like some reported during the snow time, but it still was
quite exciting to hear, see and watch this one. I took a few so-so
photos of it, which I can share by email. Hope it makes an encore
appearance...

Now I'm wondering where the derogatory labels "sap" and "sucker" came
from...
