RARE BIRD ALERT for an adult SLATY-BACKED GULL at the Abbotsford

garbage transfer station, near Riverside Road and Industrial

Way in Abbotsford. This bird has been seen at least on January 3,

16, 18, and 22.



RARE BIRD ALERT also for a first-year male KING EIDER at the

Semiahmoo Resort in Blaine, WA on January 17.





Sightings for Thursday, January 22nd



The adult SLATY-BACKED GULL was seen again at the garbage transfer

station in Abbotsford, near Riverside Road and Industrial Way,

west of Highway 11.



The two NORTHERN GOSHAWKS, one adult and one immature, were still

present in Vancouver's Jericho Park.





No sightings reported for Wednesday, January 21st





Sightings for Tuesday, January 20th



The adult GOLDEN EAGLE was seen again on 28th Avenue near the Roberts

Bank port in Delta.





Sightings for Monday, January 19th



A GREAT GRAY OWL was seen and photographed near Point Atkinson in

Lighthouse Park, West Vancouver.



Five LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS were seen along the Nicomekl River near

Brydon Lagoon in Langley, a regular wintering spot for this species.





Sightings for Sunday, January 18th



Three out-of-season BARN SWALLOWS were seen over the outer pond at

Iona Island, Richmond.



The GOLDEN EAGLE was seen and photographed on 28th Avenue in West

Delta, and a GYTRFALCONH was seen nearby.



An AMERICAN BITTERN was reported from Colony Farm Regional Park

In Port Coquitlam.



The SLATY-BACKED GULL was reported again in Abbotsford.





Sightings for Saturday, January 17th



Two EARED GREBES and 20 LONG-TAILED DUCKS were seen off the White

Rock pier in White Rock.



At the Semiahmoo Resort in Blaine, WA, an immature male KING EIDER

was reported near the marina, but could not be found by other observers

the next day.





Sightings for Friday, January 16th



The adult SLATY-BACKED GULL found on the Abbotsford Christmas Bird

Count was seen again near the garbage transfer station on

Industrial Way near Vye Road in Abbotsford.





Sightings for Thursday, January 15th



An adult GOLDEN EAGLE was found on 28th Avenue near 48th Street, west

of Highway 17 in Delta. It may be the same eagle which was present in

this area for awhile last winter.





Sightings for Wednesday, January 14th



A NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was reported from Terra Nova Park in

Richmond, near the western terminus of Westminster Highway.





Sightings for Tuesday, January 13th



Two adult BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were at the Reifel Bird

Sanctuary in Delta. Nearby, 7 MUTE SWANS and a GYRFALCON were

seen near the Westham Island bridge.





Sightings for Monday, January 12th



The wintering TOWNSEND'S WARBLER is still being seen daily at a

Feeder in the 3000 block of Spuraway in Port Coquitlam.





Sightings for Sunday, January 11th



A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was present with Canada Geese near

the south end of the Second Narrows Bridge in Vancouver.





Sightings for Saturday, January 10th



A flock of 15 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS was seen briefly in the Walnut

Grove district of Langley.





Sightings for Wednesday, January 7th



The immature NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen again in Vancouver's

Jericho Park.





Sightings for Monday, January 5th



At the Maplewood Conservation Area in North Vancouver, a BLACK

OYSTERCATCHER, a SPOTTED SANDPIPER, and a LESSER YELLOWLEGS

were seen.





Sightings for Sunday, January 4th



The Ladner Christmas Bird Count tallied 133 species, including

a GYRFALCON, 2 GLAUCOUS GULLS, several BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS,

a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, 13 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES, and

more than 600 BALD EAGLES.



A PINE GROSBEAK, a LESSER YELLOWLEGS, and a SPOTTED SANDPIPER were

seen at the Maplewood Conservation Area in North Vancouver.



More than 750 BALD EAGLES, plus one BALD EAGLE, were seen on the

annual eagle count in the Squamish and Brackendale area.





Sightings for Saturday, January 3rd



The Abbotsford-Mission Christmas Bird Count recorded 92 species

including an adult SLATY-BACKED GULL, an AMERICAN BITTERN, a

GOLDEN EAGLE, BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS, a HARRIS'S SPARROW, and a

RUSTY BLACKBIRD.



Two GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE and 120 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS

were seen near the head of Burrard Inlet in Port Moody.





Sightings for Friday, January 2nd



Three PINE GROSBEAKS were seen along the Grant Narrows nature dyke

at Pitt Lake.



The LESSER YELLOWLEGS and one BOHEMIAN WAXWING were noted at the

Maplewood Conservation Area in North Vancouver.



Two BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were seen at the Reifel Bird

Sanctuary in Delta, and 3 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were nearby

in the 4100 block of River Road.



Fifteen BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were seen near the UPS terminal on

Sea Island, Richmond.



Four VIRGINIA RAILS were seen in the stormwater retention area

on the north side of Lost Lagoon in Vancouver's Stanley Park.





Sightings for Thursday, January 1st



In North Vancouver, a NORTHERN PYGMY=-OWL, a NORTHERN SAW-WHET

OWL, several BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS, a SPOTTED SANDPIPER, and a

LESSER YELLOWLEGS were seen at the Maplewood Conservation Area.



A SLATE-COLOURED JUNCO, an ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD, and 3 BAND-TAILED

PIGEONS were in the 2100 block of Bowser in North Vancouver.



At Vancouver's Jericho Park, the adult NORTHERN GOSHAWK and

two BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were reported.



The wintering WILLET and 5 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS were seen and

photographed along the south side of the Tsawwassen ferry jetty

in Delta.





Sightings for Wednesday, December 31st



In Pitt Meadows, 8 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were seen along

McKechnie Road.



Two NORTHERN GOSHAWKS, an adult and immature, were at Jericho

Park in Vancouver.



At the Maplewood Conservation Area, 14 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS, a LESSER

YELLOWLEGS with 12 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, a SPOTTED SANDPIPER, a

NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL, and a BARRED OWL were seen.
