Messagejust catching up with older messages. The leucistic song sparrow I saw in Olympia in Oct. was quite different than this one. It was basically very pale all over, but no white - more just a very pale buff.

I visited Nisqually NWR today (Saturday Jan 24). About 50 cars in the parking lot. After seemingly weeks of fog every day, sunshine brought the birders out. I walked the dike down the Nisqually River and a block or two before the gate (keeping us away from the hunters), I found this friendly sparrow with a white head, feeding in the grasses on the shoulder of the dike path.
Check him out at www.pbase.com/alndonna/other_birds

Also exciting for me was a Northern Shrike, a lifer.
