Subject: [Tweeters] Anna's Hummingbird courtship

Saw a neat thing this afternoon. At a neighbor's satellite feeder, a
female Anna's sat quietly, while a male sat across from her and
chattered at her in his electrical buzz. Then he moved and hovered
beside her, still buzzing. Back to sit and chatter. Then again to hover.
Then the two buzzed off up through the rhododendron where the feeder was
hanging. The male streaked off, and the female came back to sit about a
foot from the feeder.

I've been hearing males *popping* a lot, so it's clearly courtship time.
(It does seem to me that the males pop a bit all year long. Probably a
territorial thing...)

Cheers,
