Hello Tweeters,

I spend the last 2 days,looking at the female King Eider.But unfortunate , I
was the first birder on the scene, but in the much hurry,I forgot my camera
the first day!!!!!!!
Today I went back real early at around 7.30 AM,where I met Greg
Thompson. It was real foggy, and it took 2 hours before we had a chance to see
this rare bird at this time of year.It is an adult female in breeding
plumage.Ago picture of this bird is in the Sibley Guide page 95,the second
bird from the top.I usual use the Geographic Fieldguide,But this breeding
plumage is missing. So it is always good to have more guides for
comparison. After the fog ,we both took lot's of photos, and the fog start
rolling in again. It really is strange that we was the only birders
there.Even so I had the King and the Common Eider on my list,I never had
this species close to get the best photo.
Another thing me and Greg discover photographing the under cover wing
stretched out there are feathers missing,so maybe this bird is molting. The
Sibley listed that this bird would be breeding from November to April. It is
certainly strange how this bird showing up here in Washington,If I remember
we had the Eider,in Fall or winter.Maybe an expert on this subject about the
timing would certainly helpful.
Even so I had to drive twice to Ocean Shores,it was well worth
the trips.I also visiting some good friends today.

Cheers Ruth Sullivan
