Although the young Barred Owl in West Seattle isn't quite ready to declare
his own independence day, his plumage has matured notably; the fluffy baby
feathers remain mostly around his neck and head. He was quite squally as I
was taking pictures, enough so that I began to worry whether he might be
really too hungry. His parent was nearby being harassed by crows. They were
both yawning quite a bit -- maybe from staying up hunting?
