Hello All,

This morning MerryLynn and I left the house at 6:15 AM to bird western Walla
Walla County before the sun took control of the thermostat and pushed
temperatures upwards to 100 degrees F. Birds of note were as follows:

Walla Walla River delta

Great Egret............................................1 ad.
Bonaparte's Gulls....................................2 molting into winter
basic.
Black-crowned Night Heron...................2 ad.
Virginia Rail............................................2 ad.
Western Grebes.....................................23 birds
Black-capped Chickadee..........................1 ad.
Clark's Grebe............................................1 ad.
Bufflehead.................................................1 ad. female-odd
species at this season.
Bank Swallows..........................................100s headed south in
migration.

Iowa Beef/Tyson Ponds

Greater Yellowlegs....................................3 ad.
Wilson's Phalarope.....................................7 birds
Western Sandpiper....................................2 birds
Lesser Yellowlegs......................................1 bird
Black-necked Stilt......................................1 bird
Am.Avocet.................................................3 birds

Dodd Rd. blood ponds

Least Sandpiper..........................................32 birds,all adults
Western Sandpiper......................................16 birds, all adults.
Semipalmated Sandpiper...............................1 bird, winter basic
adult, early record for WW Co..
Am. Avocet...................................................4 birds, one
pair nesting.
Wilson's Phalarope..........................................1 ad.female.

White-throated Swift.......................................16 + adults

Byrns Rd.

Bank Swallows.................................................200+ perched
on road between two alfalfa fields, feeding on bees and gathering to
migrate.

That is it for now. It was 95 degrees by the time we reached the house at
11:45 AM.
