My local yokel bird headline was gonna be 'Everett Shorebirds Soon to be Short of Shoreline'. That's because the seasonal pond along 12th street NE on Smith Island has been rapidly drying up in the warm weather. It has been a great little shorebird magnet for the past month. As the water level got really low the numbers of birds really dropped off. I gave the pond about a week before it dried up completely.

But today a miracle - more water! It has rained a bit up here overnight and I guess that was enough. At any rate it was enough to bring in more shorebirds!

Today saw 6 Lesser Yellowlegs, 1 Greater Yellowlegs, a pair of Spotted Sandpipers, several Killdeers, and a flock of about 30+ peeps (just out of my bino range). For awhile now the most abundant 'shorebird' has been young
Starlings. Today several of them joined in with the peep flock and matched the peeps every zig and zag as the flock flew around.

Maybe it's just my imagination, but it seems like this June has been exceptional for shorebirds here locally. Anybody out there in tweeterland have any info regarding the 'big picture' of shorebird movements this year?
