Jessica Adkins just sent me some beginning results re: CATE from the early July 2009, part aerial/part land survey of Puget Sound conducted by a unit of Oregon State. The Bellingham waterfront colony had an estimated 75 pairs, with one to two week old chicks. Four banded birds were sighted, three from the Columbia River and one from the Columbia Plateau. Caspian Terns were seen in the Everett Waterfront and Harbor Island Seattle areas, but with no evidence of nesting. Approx 15 CATE were on a roof at Everett and approx 30 on a roof at H.I.S. The recorders stated that the aerial surveys might have missed small roof top colonies. However it is clear that Bellingham is the main action in the mid to north Sound area. DH
