Greetings all,

It's been a while since I've posted anything on the Hundred Acre Woods (NE Lakewood, Pierce County) A developer has begun decimating about 20 % of it so it's been painful to watch, but Lord knows, we need more apartments!

Nothing too unusual to report except for some shifts over the 8 years I've been monitoring the site.? There haven't been Orioles for the past three years, but a female was there today.? I saw 8 or 9 Anna'a Hummers; more than I've ever seen in one visit before.? Another bird that put in a return appearance was an Orange-crowned Warbler.? They've just plain scarce the past two years.? Two Virginia's Rails were having a conversation.? A visiting adult female Cooper's Hawk was less than welcomed by the locals.? The resident pair of Red-tails was cavorting on thermals and the Yellowthroats and Marsh Wrens were EVERYWHERE.? Even a Quail piped up at one point.? 43 birds for the morning, plus signs of beaver activity along the edges of the wetland.
