Subject: [Tweeters] White-tailed kite, Ocean Shores Date: Jul 13 09:22:00 2009 From: Dianna Moore - dlmoor2 at coastaccess.com
Hi Tweets...Sunday afternoon I watched a White-tailed Kite hunting over the dunes just north of Ocean Shores. At first I thought it was a male harrier (what is a kite doing here at this time of year?) but with my binos it was easily ID'd as a kite; white tail, head and breast with dark patches at wrists and the ends of the primaries, hovering in place then gracefully floating down, wings still raised. I watched it for about 20 minutes as it hunted, culminating with one of those floats to the dune grass but it didn't return to the hunt in the next half hour I stuck around the area.
The only other time I have seen a kite in Ocean Shores was on Christmas Day, 2006
