Subject: [Tweeters] King Eider still at Ocean Shores, 17 July 2009
Hi all,

The King Eider at Ocean Shores was present this morning (7/17/09). The
scoters and it were 100+ yards offshore (a very rough estimate), and viewing
conditions were far from ideal.

Hello Fellow Tweeters and thanks to John for this update. I visited Ocean
Shores Saturday morning and searched Damon Pt, Pt Brown, the Sewage
Treatment Ponds, rocky shorelines and the jetties. I saw the flock of
scoters (which probably included the Eider) from a distance, but did not
make it to them in time before they flew away to identify the Eider. Ah - an
excuse to return!

I did see the following:

Brown Pelican
White Crowned Sparrow
Tentatively identified Heermann's Gulls bathing in the Sewage Treatment
Ponds (orange bill, black on tip, grey bodies, smaller than westerns - large
flock) <<Has anyone else seen these so I can verify my ID?
Rock sandpiper flock
Lone wandering tattler
Male ruddy turnstone still in breeding colors (starting to fade)
Surf scoter (male, female)
Various comorants

Dolphin

Happy tweeting!

Liz from Shelton
