Should clarify my opening clause -- peak of the beach vacation season, with huge numbers of folks going from DC & Baltimore to the beach resorts.

Peak of the summer season, even with the road expansions, going out on Friday or Sat or returning on Sunday, it will be a solid 4 hours. Less during the week, but rush hour to cope with then. Bombay Hook NWR (just northeast of Dover DE can be fabulous, but buggy. And because its north of the beach areas, faster to get to. Write me directly for the shortcut.
Huntley Meadows is far less interesting since the beavers who maintained the main dam moved out or passed on several years ago. Far smaller pool & most of the area now brush. Dyke Marsh far the better option.
Monticello is an incredible migration trap in the spring. Just a small suburban park with great woodpeckers rest of the year. Enter from the upriver side (can't think of the street name off-hand, but Monticello St is the wrong side)
