Hello BIRDERS AND TWEETERS,
I like to thank all the kind people who responded so fast ,to give
me,all,the,many,places,to,call.But,the,bird,was,a,Sooty,Shearwater
it,did,not,sounded,so,good.Best,advise,was,to,release,this,bird,to
saltwater.
This,is,the,story,about,the,rescue,of ,a,Sooty Shearwater.Mikel,
Marsh,and,I,had,a,great,time,of,birding,to,we hit,the,Westport,
marina.There we,saw,a,what,it,looked,a,SEABIRD,struggle,to,
keep,a,float,.There where,many,bystanders,looking ,at this,bird
so I went down on the boardwalk,trying to give some attention,
to coming closer,and it worked,since this bird could not flying
we presuming that he had oil on his feathers.But with Towel,I,was
able to pick it up.We put the bird in a box,and contacted some
places for advise.But we could not find any one to taken this,
bird,it was already late 6.00PM.I could not seeing leaving,this,
bird there,after we looked in the box,and the bird slept from
exhaustion.So we took this bird home,trying the next morning,to
find,a place,what,would,take,it,to,care,for.
We,came home,and,transfer,the,bird,in,to,a,new,box,we,was,waking,it.up.
I fixed,some,raw,shrimp,what,he,parsley,was,eat.This morning
open the box,he almost,trying,to,jump,out,and I,could not,trying
to,touch this,bird,what was ID by the examine and the size,as a
Sooty Shearwater,as being way to thin,and ,probable,did ,not
got,enough food to survive.
I ended up of the advise by many to release this Shearwater,in
to Saltwater.So I went to the nearest place what was Point Defiance,on Owen
Beach ,He did not needed assistant to get out of the box,and swiftly
swimming,away,to the unknown.I sadly
watched this bird,to he was no longer in sight,and since he could
not flying the outcome looks grim,if he will survive.
It is such sad story,but in the future I would never trying to,rescue a
seabird.
