Tweeters,
I had just finished washing up before heading for bed when I heard squealing
from the front of the house - sounded like a rabbit biting the dust. I
quickly grabbed a flashlight and from the front porch I immediately lit up a
GREAT HORNED OWL pinning down the rabbit, which wasn't squealing any more.
Since the rabbits have had a bumper crop this year, I won't be losing any
sleep over it (not that I would anyway).
>From the you-know-you-live-out-in-the-sticks file: I was scoping some small
birds out back early this morning when I heard a plaintive "m-m-m-o-o-o"
from what sounded like the area near the north side of the house. Sure
enough, a black Angus cow - a LARGE animal - came down the path and out
toward one of my seed feeders. It stopped there, staring at the birds and
the feeder. I grabbed my camera and went out back, but when the cow saw me,
it took off toward the neighbor's house. Looks like it got out from the
field across the street. We've had a couple of deer on the property lately,
but this critter was a bit larger (an understatement!) than any deer.
May all your birds be identified,
Denis DeSilvis
