Hello Tweets,

I visited Green Lake (Seattle) yesterday evening for the first time in about
three weeks, and saw just one young from the nest that had had four. (Of
course, it's possible that additional young were somewhere else with the
other parent.) The parent was busily diving for fish, with the baby eagerly
in attendance, but over perhaps a 15-minute period I only saw it come up
with one.

Years ago when I lived by Green Lake, there were typically 11-14 grebe nests
at the lake; this year only one. I wonder whether there's a correlation
between the lack of small prey while the grebe was fishing and reduced nest
numbers?
