Hi Tweeters:
I led a small group of adults on a birdwalk today in Tukwila. It was a mid-day walk,
talking about birds, binocs, birdbooks, etc. We walked from Tukwila Community Ctr.
to Codiga Park, staying on the Community Ctr side of the Green River. The park is
across the Green River from Boeing Employee's Credit Union. As we walked above the
river we saw crows, 2 Killdeer, and about 20 Canada Geese along the river's edge.
Codiga Park used to be Codiga Dairy Farm. It's name on a map is Codiga Farms Park
and salmon restoration site. There is a Osprey nest platform there. In the small
park, a channel runs inland from the river, and it has been planted heavily w/ native
plants. There are a lot of cottonwood trees. Two trails run down both sides of the
channel toward the river. The left trail goes down to the river's edge. When we
arrived at the park, two adult Ospreys were quite active. They were bringing fish to
a young bird which is less than 1/2 the size of the adults. In the thick trees and
bushes we could hear Bullock's Orioles calling. We saw two female or young orioles
in those trees. American Goldfinches were calling in the trees. The weather was
perfect. It was in the 60's.
Yours, Carol Schulz
