There ought to be a way that Tweeters can legally access the Ocean Shores
STP on weekends in August. It is historically a location for finding mega
rarities, and we, the birding community, are either forced to acquiesce to
the M-F 0800-1630 routine of the facility, or sneak in the former break in
the back fence that has now been repaired so that you have to really climb
the fence. Do you suppose there is a way that we (Tweeterdom) could pay to
have it staffed and opened on August weekends? The folks at the STP are
really nice and obliging, but rather than continue to hope for the best, we
ought to ensure the optimal. I don't know if Washington Audubon or WOS would
be interested in funding this, but I also wonder how many Tweeters are
frustrated at not having access this weekend to the Red-necked Stint, or how
many are climbing the fence in the face of no other option.
