I took my son on a charter salmon fishing trip out of La Push today. I'll
admit that I double dip in this activity- I enjoy salmon fishing and since
we go out 10-12 miles, I often get some pelagic species.

Noteworthy species:

Caisson's Auklet-2

Common Murre - 1000+

Sooty shearwater-60+

Pink-footed Shearwater- 20+

Black-footed Albatross-2

TUFTED PUFFIN- 60+

Northern Fulmar -5

I also had a BARN OWL in the early morning hours prior to the fishing trip.

Interesting to me was that n addition to catching our limit, we caught 6
Humboldt Squid. I landed the smallest out of curiosity, and it was over 10
pounds. Our guide of many years could not recall ever catching squid here
before. On the way into the La Push Harbor, the water changed from green
to blue. Upon investigation, the water was filled with tens of thousands of
small fish which our guide said were anchovies. The strange thing was that
despite the abundance, there was nothing around to feed on them.

A great day out. Did I mention that it was only 73 degrees, light wind and
a flat sea?
