Tweets,

Today 20 of us walked Nisqually under sunny skies and warm (hot?) temps.
Unfortunately we got there after the construction crew and missed the BLACK
TERN and CROSSBILLS Bill Shelmerdine saw earlier in the morning. But we
still had a great walk.

Highlights included 2 AMERICAN BITTERN sightings, a WILSON'S PHALAROPES,
and finding another RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD nest. The new nest was at he end of
the riparian area trail just to the left of the benches.

Raptors were scarce with only a juvenile BALD EAGLE and a RED-TAILED HAWK
being seen. The RED-TAIL was being harassed by some CROWS as it flew into
the woods. We also got good looks at an adult GREAT HORNED OWL.

Waterfowl were very scarce with only a few MALLARDS, some WOOD DUCKS,
GADWALL, and NORTHERN SHOVELERS being seen.

Besides the PHALAROPES other shorebirds seen were KILLDEER and SPOTTED
SANDPIPERS.

There were lots of SWAINSON'S THRUSH out and about as well as CEDAR
WAXWINGS and a few COMMON YELLOWTHROAT. We saw 4 species of swallows missing
only the NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED.

All told we saw 40 species for the day with nothing new for the year.

Mammals seen included EASTERN GRAY SQUIRREL and 2 buck BLACK-TAILED DEER,
one a spike and the other a fork horned. Both were in velvet and looked
very healthy.

Until next week...
