Hi all...I'm weighing in on a few recent posts:
1. I was under the impression that insects are attracted to the sap wells
and become mired in the sap, thus affording an easy bug-and-sap meal. Beats
me where I read it, though, assuming I read it.

2. I have had 14-20 Red Crossbills visiting my sunflower seed platform
feeder and overlapping to my nyger seed socks for two weeks. Needless to
say, I am being eaten out of house and home, but I'm pleased to have them
visit. The Pine Siskins and American Goldfinches, however, are not as
thrilled.

3. I hesitated to post this because I thought no one would ever believe me,
but I swear I saw 12 White Pelicans flying north across Hwy 105 on
Wednesday, May 27th. I was not driving, so I had plenty of time to crane my
neck at this amazing sight...very large, white birds with black-tipped wings
and secondaries, with slow, ponderous flapping then gliding, strung out in a
horizontal line. They flew across the highway then out over the harbor
(Grays Harbor) heading towards Grays Harbor NWR. I know they were much
bigger than Snow Geese, and against that really blue sky, they were very
white. After reading other posts, I feel more confident I wasn't seeing
lenticular clouds!
